The Azad Jammu & Kashmir Election Commission has issued an arrest warrant for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur, citing alleged violations of the code of conduct during the 2021 elections. The warrant comes following an application filed by lawyer Raja Zulqarnain Abid.

Directed by the commission, the Dera Ismail Khan deputy commissioner is tasked with arresting the PTI leader and presenting him before the court by February 28.

In response to the warrant, Gandapur had previously approached the Lahore High Court, seeking details of cases registered against him and requesting an injunctive order against potential arrest in undisclosed cases. He argued that the government’s actions against PTI were politically motivated, with undisclosed cases also registered against him in Punjab province.

Gandapur, a former federal minister and Member National Assembly (MNA), as well as a Provincial Assembly elect in the 2024 general elections, has been nominated by PTI founder Imran Khan for the chief minister position in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Imran Khan confirmed this informally to reporters at Adiala Jail after the May 9-related cases hearing.
