Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Meets World Bank Regional VP, Discusses Development Priorities

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb recently met with Martin Raiser, the World Bank’s Regional Vice President for South Asia, to discuss development initiatives and priorities. Aurangzeb expressed satisfaction with the progress towards finalizing the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF), emphasizing the government’s commitment to reform in key sectors such as energy, taxation, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

During the meeting, Aurangzeb highlighted the government’s focus on both short and long-term goals in these sectors, aiming for sustainable economic growth. He also noted alignment between the World Bank’s priorities—such as climate change, digitalization, and human development—and the government’s vision for national development.

Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of timely completion of development projects to achieve their intended impact and outcomes. He briefed Raiser on the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a one-window facility for investment and facilitation, underscoring the government’s efforts to attract investment and promote economic development.

Both parties agreed on the necessity for reforms in critical areas such as agriculture, water management, and wastewater treatment to address pressing challenges and unlock the country’s true economic potential. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to collaboration and progress in advancing development goals.
