ChatGPT, the widely-used language model developed by OpenAI, is currently experiencing an outage in several countries, including Pakistan. Users have reported encountering errors, prompts failing to function, and inaccessible chat history, causing frustration among the user community.

The disruption began after 7 PM local time in Pakistan, and despite over three hours passing, the issue remains unresolved. OpenAI acknowledged the problem approximately two hours ago, stating that they are actively investigating the issue. However, the root cause of this outage has not been disclosed.

This marks the second instance of ChatGPT facing downtime within the past 48 hours. On OpenAI’s official website, a notice indicates that the service is down for “some” users while investigations continue. Down Detector, a platform monitoring website downtime, has recorded a significant increase in user reports following the outage.

In a previous incident in November 2023, OpenAI attributed similar problems to “periodic outages due to an abnormal traffic pattern reflective of a DDoS attack.” The impact extends beyond Pakistan, with a substantial number of reports coming from users in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Many individuals have expressed frustration at being unable to access the ChatGPT service via both the web and mobile app. As the outage persists, users are left without access to the platform’s services, disrupting their workflows and communications.
