Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Dr Umar Saif, highlights pivotal decisions made through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These decisions, inclusive of stakeholders from military and political leadership, aim to directly benefit the masses and accelerate the development and stability of Pakistan’s economy.

In a video statement, Dr Umar Saif emphasizes the ease of decision-making within the SIFC forum, ensuring timely decisions for the country’s development and public interests. The Minister stresses the importance of economic stability and avoiding departmental obstacles, advocating for quick and effective decisions through the SIFC forum.

Addressing a long-pending case related to the allocation of hundreds of MHz of spectrum with Sun TV since 2014, Dr Umar Saif notes that the matter was efficiently addressed through the SIFC forum. The legal requirements were met, leading to daily hearings by the Honorable High Court of Sindh and a favorable verdict on Thursday. The spectrum, valued at multi-million dollars in the current market, is now in government custody.

Furthermore, Dr Umar Saif discusses the SIFC’s instrumental role in overcoming departmental hurdles, facilitating spectrum auctions, establishing an optical fiber network across the country, and implementing the Right of Way Policy. The forum also plays a key role in formulating the country’s first space policy, currently in preparation and awaiting approval from relevant forums. Negotiations with Starlink are in the final stages, promising the imminent availability and improvement of satellite internet for the public.

These initiatives underscore the commitment to progress, economic growth, and technological advancement, positioning Pakistan for a digitally empowered future.
