The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized September 29 as the date for conducting local body elections in Islamabad, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing legal proceedings.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani presided over the case concerning Islamabad’s local body elections, where ECP officials assured readiness for the scheduled elections. Amendments to the Election Act regarding seat allocations are in progress, with notifications anticipated within the next two weeks.

The court, scheduling further proceedings post-holidays, emphasized the provision for parties to file grievances if issues arise. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad submitted a detailed financial report.

Responding to these developments, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed parties to submit comprehensive comments, consolidating all relevant applications. The court adjourned the hearing until October 15 after an inquiry into the ECP’s preparations revealed a four-month timeline.

This development marks a significant step towards ensuring democratic representation through the scheduled local body elections in the capital city.
