ederal government has decided to cancel free electricity units previously allocated to employees of distribution companies (DISCOs), generation companies (GENCOs), and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). The Power Division, through a notification on Tuesday, announced that the federal cabinet has given approval for the monetization of these free units for WAPDA and ex-WAPDA employees, including those in DISCOs, GENCOs, National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), and Power Information Technology Company (PITC).

As per the approved monetization plan, all in-service employees in Grade-17 and above are now required to pay their electricity bills issued by respective DISCOs using assigned reference numbers. The monetization plan includes specific allowances for different employee categories:

  • Employees in Grade-17 and above: Rs. 15,858 per month (450 units allowance)
  • GENCOs employees (allowed 650 units): Rs. 24,570 per month
  • DISCOs and WAPDA employees (eligible for free 600 units): Rs. 21,996 per month
  • Grade-19 staff (entitled to 880 units): Rs. 37,594 per month
  • Grade-21 personnel (entitled to 1,300 units): Rs. 55,536 per month

This move aims to streamline the compensation structure and bring uniformity in the allowances for electricity consumption across different government entities. The changes will impact employees at various grade levels, ensuring fair compensation based on their entitlements.
