FIA Summons FBR Member Operations in Corruption Inquiry

FBR's Q1 revenue details shared with IMF for 2023-24

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, Member Operations of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption, kickbacks, bribery, and illegal tax refund approvals for large taxpayer companies.

Summon Details: Mir Badshah Khan Wazir and other officials are required to appear on July 26, 2024, and provide relevant documents and evidence.

Allegations: The inquiry focuses on illegal activities by officials in the Large Taxpayer Office (LTO) Lahore over the past five years.

Response: Wazir, a close aide of the FBR Chairman, has submitted his reply to the FIA.

Context: Four senior IR officials were previously suspended for involvement in a tax refund scandal involving millions of rupees. this summons is part of the FIA’s broader efforts to address corruption within the FBR.
