Finance Ministry categorically dismissed claims aired by a private news channel regarding alleged delays in releasing funds for development projects and federal government salaries. The ministry’s spokesperson emphasized that the news was baseless and false, highlighting the importance of consulting the Finance Division’s spokesperson before broadcasting such reports.

The statement assured that Pakistan is adhering to all commitments of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, evident in the successful completion of the Staff Level Agreement (SLA) for the first review. It further provided fiscal highlights, affirming the release of Quarter 2 funds for current and development expenditures by the Finance Division.

Contrary to the reported changes in the release strategy by a specific channel, the Planning, Development, and Special Initiative (PD & SI) Division has authorized funds for development expenses to line ministries as per the established strategy. The Finance Division has also disbursed Quarter 2 funds for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), ensuring the smooth transfer to beneficiaries.

The statement highlighted the availability of funds for subsidizing the power sector, aligning with Circular Debt Management Plan (CDMP) requirements. Additionally, the Finance Division ensured the timely release of salaries to the Christian community before Christmas.

Addressing concerns raised by the news item, the Finance Ministry emphasized that revenue collection by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and NTR collection by other ministries are on track. The statement concluded that the news lacked evidence and failed to consider the government’s viewpoint.
