The Session Court has acquitted Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI), and his spouse Bushra Bibi in the nikkah iddat case, ordering their immediate release. The Islamabad district and sessions court, after reserving its verdict, accepted the appeals filed by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi against their previous conviction in the case.

Judge Afzal Majoka announced the verdict, nullifying their earlier conviction and directing their release unless detained in another matter. Imran Khan’s counsel, including Imran Sabir and Murtaza Tori, alongside Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Zahid Asif advocate, appeared during the court proceedings.

Earlier, District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand had requested the Islamabad High Court to transfer the case to another judge due to petitioner Khawar Maneka’s lack of trust. The case originated when Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were indicted on February 3 by Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah, sentencing them to seven years in prison and a fine of 0.5 million each for allegedly marrying during Bushra’s mandatory Iddat period, following her previous marriage to Khawar Farid Maneka.

The Islamabad High Court had instructed the sessions court to decide on the appeals within 10 days.

This verdict marks a significant development in the legal proceedings against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, relieving them of previous convictions and allowing them to resume their activities without legal impediments.
