Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were officially indicted on Tuesday in the Toshakhana case during a hearing conducted by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir at Adiala Jail. Imran Khan is presently incarcerated in Adiala Jail following his conviction in the cipher case.

The previous day, the judge had deferred their indictment in both the Toshakhana and the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) scam, commonly known as the Al-Qadir Trust cases, due to Bushra Bibi’s absence.

During the recent hearing, Bushra Bibi’s counsel filed an application seeking a one-day exemption from her personal appearance, which the court subsequently approved.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against Imran Khan and his wife, alleging that, during his tenure as the prime minister, Imran received 108 gifted state assets, out of which he retained 58 without depositing them in Toshakhana for fair price assessment, contravening rules. NAB further claims that Imran sold or misappropriated some of these assets for personal benefit.

According to NAB, investigations revealed that Bushra Bibi, as the ex-PM’s wife, received gifts from foreign dignitaries amounting to millions of rupees. She allegedly retained these gifts against a meager retention cost based on undervalued assessment/appraisement.
