Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and several party leaders in a case originally filed at Aapbara Police Station. Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood delivered the verdict today, which had been reserved following petitions seeking acquittal.

Among those cleared in the case are prominent PTI figures such as Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rasheed, Asad Qaiser, Shehryar Afridi, Faisal Javed, Raja Khurram Nawaz, and Ali Nawaz Awan. PTI’s legal representatives, Advocate Sardar Masroof and Advocate Ansar Kayani, presented arguments on behalf of the accused during the proceedings.

The case pertained to protests led by Imran Khan and other politicians against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) Toshakhana verdict in 2022, which temporarily disqualified Khan from holding public office. Khan has been embroiled in various legal battles since his removal as prime minister in 2022, facing allegations ranging from corruption to terrorism.

Imran Khan has remained in detention since August last year and has faced convictions in some cases ahead of the recent nationwide election. Despite the acquittal in this particular case, Khan continues to contend with numerous other legal challenges.

Currently, the main obstacle to his release is the iddat or the un-Islamic marriage case, which is currently ongoing. The presiding judge anticipates concluding proceedings on this matter by the end of the month.

This verdict marks a notable development in the legal landscape surrounding Imran Khan and PTI leaders, influencing their ongoing legal battles and political trajectory in Pakistan.
