Institute of Business Administration Karachi Dismisses Senior Professor Amid Harassment Allegations

Allegations of offensive language and breach of conduct standards

A senior professor at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi faces dismissal following allegations of harassment, resulting in his termination from the institution. Dr M. Mohsin Butt has been accused of tarnishing the reputation of colleagues through purported use of offensive and abusive language, prompting the management’s strict action against him.

Allegedly, Dr Butt repeatedly violated the IBA’s Code of Conduct despite prior warnings and advisories. Irfan Qamar, the Director HR, highlighted the necessity of such stringent measures in aligning with the university’s core values and policies.

However, Dr Butt, serving as a professor of Marketing at the School of Business Studies, refutes the accusations against him. He claims that he was terminated without being granted the opportunity to present his side to the inquiry committee, expressing discontent over the lack of due process.

Receiving his termination notice at the university’s entrance from security personnel, Dr Butt revealed an issued show-cause notice from the university administration regarding an old case. He expressed attempts to seek redress, including reaching out to the chief minister, but felt unheard.

Dr Butt asserted his history of advocating against harassment, abuse, and injustice. Despite raising these concerns and petitioning the chief minister for action, he contends that he faced expulsion from the institution.
