Islamabad High Court Reserves Verdict on Imran Khan’s Cipher Case Appeal

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict on Tuesday following an intra-court appeal filed by Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), challenging a single-member bench’s decision approving the jail trial in the cipher case involving the ex-premier.

Anticipated to be announced at 5:30 pm, the decision will be revealed by an IHC division bench, consisting of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz.

The cipher case revolves around a diplomatic document alleged by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to have not been returned by Imran Khan. PTI asserts that the document contains a threat from the United States to remove Imran as prime minister.

Former Premier Imran Khan, along with his aide Shah Mahmood Qureshi, indicted in the case on October 23, has pleaded not guilty. Although the IHC endorsed Imran’s indictment, it directed the special court judge to ensure a “fair trial.”

In a recent development, the court temporarily halted trial court proceedings against Imran Khan while considering his intra-court appeal. During the preceding hearing, the IHC requested the appointment record of the judge overseeing the jail trial and ordered the presentation of the letter written by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain to the IHC administration seeking permission for the ex-PM’s trial in jail.
