Karachi’s Uninterrupted Power Supply Secured with Government-K-Electric Collaboration

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar affirmed on Monday the commitment to providing uninterrupted power supply to Karachi through collaborative efforts between the government and K-Electric.

During a meeting with a delegation from K-Electric, led by Monis Abdullah Alvi, the Chief Executive Officer of Karachi Electric (KE), Prime Minister Kakar expressed the assurance of continuous power supply to Karachi. The delegation extended gratitude to the premier for effectively addressing long-standing issues faced by KE.

Acknowledging the concerns of K-Electric, the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted Kakar’s emphasis on resolving the power crisis in Karachi. The delegation appreciated the Prime Minister for the substantial Rs390 billion investment plan allocated for K-Electric. Additionally, approval for rates (tariff) related to 640MW of renewable energy projects and the provision of an extra 1,000MW of electricity were crucial points of discussion during the meeting.

The delegation conveyed to the Prime Minister that these measures had sent a positive signal to investors, contributing to a favorable outlook for the energy sector. In response, Prime Minister Kakar directed the Ministry of Energy to engage in mutual consultation to find a permanent solution to other challenges faced by K-Electric.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized a policy focus on the purchasing power of electricity consumers and their overall welfare. This directive underscores the commitment to addressing not only infrastructure challenges but also ensuring affordability and well-being for the end-users.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister received a comprehensive briefing on various issues related to K-Electric. The delegation, comprising Chief Executive Officer KE Monis Abdullah Alvi, Chief Finance Officer KE Amir Ghazini, and Regulatory Officer Imran Qureshi, provided insights into the current state of affairs.

The gathering witnessed the presence of key figures such as Federal Energy Minister Muhammad Ali, Chairman Nepra Waseem Mukhtar, Chief Executive Officer Central Power Purchasing Agency Rehan Akhtar, and other senior officers, collectively working towards sustainable solutions for Karachi’s power needs.
