Pakistan’s Foreign Office announced that the country would not be participating in the upcoming Ukraine Peace Summit, scheduled to be held in Switzerland on June 15 and 16. Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch explained during a media briefing that Pakistan had received an invitation to the summit but would not be able to attend due to prior commitments. Despite this, Baloch emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to global peace efforts and continues to play a significant role in promoting international harmony.

Addressing questions about Pakistan’s relations with India, Baloch clarified that there has been no recent exchange of letters between the two nations. She noted that Indian media often publishes reports based on speculation rather than verified facts. Baloch reiterated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formally congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi via a tweet upon his assumption of office. “It is customary for governments to formally congratulate the elected leaders of other countries,” she stated, emphasizing the routine nature of such diplomatic gestures.

Baloch also provided updates on Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to repatriate illegal foreign residents. The implementation of this repatriation plan is actively underway. Pakistan has consistently highlighted the threat of terrorism and has communicated its concerns to Afghanistan regarding individuals wanted for terrorism who are reportedly residing there. This communication underscores Pakistan’s persistent efforts to address and mitigate security threats in the region.

The spokesperson expressed optimism about the progress in the strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China in the coming months. Baloch mentioned that all matters, including the protection of Chinese citizens in Pakistan and broader bilateral relations, are comprehensively addressed in the joint statement between the two countries. The strategic partnership between Pakistan and China continues to be a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, reflecting deep mutual interests and cooperation.
