Government of Pakistan has announced a shift in its pricing strategy for petroleum products, opting for a weekly revision instead of the previous fortnightly mechanism. This decision, revealed on Saturday, comes after the government sought input from stakeholders and the Petroleum Dealers Association.
In a letter addressing stakeholders, the government has requested “meaningful views/comments, including pros and cons” within a five-working-day timeframe regarding the transition from fortnightly to weekly pricing.
However, the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has opposed the move, asserting that determining petroleum product prices on a weekly basis is impractical. Abdul Sami, the association’s president, conveyed their suggestion to shift from fortnightly to monthly pricing, emphasizing the potential consequences of the government’s decision.
