Pakistan International Airlines Concludes Pre-Hajj Operations Successfully

The national carrier of Pakistan, PIA, launched its Hajj flight operations on May 9, initiating the journey for thousands of pilgrims participating under the government’s scheme. The extensive operation saw a total of 35,030 pilgrims flying to Saudi Arabia through 171 dedicated flights, showcasing the airline’s capability to manage such a significant logistical challenge.

According to PIA’s official statement, out of the total pilgrims, 19,500 were part of the government-sponsored program, while 14,900 traveled through private arrangements. Additionally, 630 pilgrims departed for the holy cities of Madinah and Jeddah. These flights departed from major cities including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Sialkot, and Peshawar. Pilgrims from Sukkur and Quetta were routed through Karachi to ensure a seamless travel experience.

This year’s Hajj quota for Pakistan stands at 179,210 pilgrims. Within this quota, approximately 70,000 individuals will perform the pilgrimage under the government scheme, while the remaining will be facilitated by private tour operators. The successful transport of over 35,000 pilgrims marks a significant accomplishment for PIA and highlights its role in supporting one of the largest annual gatherings in the world.

The completion of the pre-Hajj operations is just the beginning of PIA’s commitment to serving the pilgrims. The airline is set to commence its post-Hajj operations on June 20, which will continue until July 21. This phase will involve returning the pilgrims safely to Pakistan, ensuring they can reflect on their spiritual journey with peace of mind.

Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage, is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey. Each year, millions of Muslims from around the world gather in the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia to perform a series of rituals that date back to the time of the Prophet Abraham.
