Pakistan and Iran Pledge Joint Action Against Terrorism, Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Pakistan and Iran expressed their commitment to combat terrorism by agreeing in principle to ban terrorist organizations within their territories. The decision emerged during a meeting between Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart Dr. Ahmad Vahidi, alongside Law Minister Amin Hussain Rahimi.

Acknowledging terrorism as a shared threat, both nations devised a comprehensive plan of action aimed at enhancing mutual support and intelligence sharing. They resolved to expedite the signing of a security agreement to bolster their cooperation in combating terrorism.

Furthermore, both countries pledged to ensure optimal facilities for Pakistani pilgrims during Arba’een, with Iran extending an invitation for a visit by the Pakistani Interior Minister, along with the Iraqi counterpart. Emphasizing the importance of joint efforts, they aimed to improve pilgrims’ experiences.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation, Interior Minister Naqvi stressed the urgency of repatriating Pakistani prisoners held in Iran. Additionally, they agreed to intensify collaboration in border management to curb smuggling and drug trafficking, thereby fostering mutual trade and economic growth.

Commending Pakistan’s border fencing initiatives, the Iranian Interior Minister highlighted the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two nations. Minister Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering fraternal relations and appreciated Iran’s support on various regional issues, including Kashmir.

The ministers mutually recognized the significance of the Iranian President’s forthcoming visit to Pakistan in strengthening bilateral ties. Grateful for the warm reception during their visit, the Iranian delegates thanked Pakistan for its hospitality.
