Pakistan Post’s parcel service to the United States has been suspended for over a month, causing significant disruptions for businesses and e-commerce sellers. This ongoing suspension has led to numerous order cancellations and has severely impacted the trade of Pakistani products in the US market.

The suspension of Pakistan Post’s parcel service to the US stems from multiple issues. Reports indicate that one primary reason for the service halt is the non-payment of compensation owed to American shipping companies. These companies, which are essential for the logistics and delivery of international parcels, have not received the agreed-upon payments from Pakistan Post, leading them to suspend their services.

Pakistan Post has cited “inadequate” packaging of parcels as another contributing factor to the service suspension. According to Pakistan Post, the parcels being sent to the US did not meet the required packaging standards, raising concerns about the safety and condition of the items during transit. This issue has exacerbated the disruption, impacting the reliability of the postal service.

The suspension of parcel services has had a substantial negative impact on various sectors, particularly e-commerce. Online sellers who rely on Pakistan Post to ship products to the US are facing significant challenges. Many businesses have been forced to cancel orders due to the inability to fulfill shipments, leading to customer dissatisfaction and loss of revenue.

The disruption also affects the trade of Pakistani products in the US market. The inability to ship goods reliably has limited access to the US market for Pakistani exporters, affecting their potential sales and market presence. This situation has created a ripple effect, undermining business operations and economic activities that depend on smooth international shipping.

Compounding the problem, a major corruption scandal involving Pakistan Post has emerged. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Composite Circle Abbottabad conducted a significant operation that led to the arrest of four officials from the Postal Department. The accused individuals—Hafeez, Waheed, Hameed, and Khalil—are alleged to be involved in corruption cases amounting to over Rs. 300 million.

These officials, who were employed at the Postal Department Abbottabad, were apprehended after a court canceled their bail. The corruption charges revolve around allegations that these employees misappropriated funds from savings accounts managed by the General Post Office (GPO) in Abbottabad. The scandal has further eroded trust in the postal service and intensified the crisis surrounding the parcel service suspension.

In light of the suspension and the corruption scandal, there have been calls for immediate corrective actions. Businesses and stakeholders are urging Pakistan Post to resolve the issues related to compensation payments and packaging standards to restore parcel services to the US. Addressing these concerns promptly is crucial for resuming normal operations and mitigating further economic damage.

To resolve the packaging issues, Pakistan Post may need to implement stricter quality control measures and provide clear guidelines to ensure that all parcels meet international standards. Additionally, resolving the financial disputes with American shipping companies is essential for reinstating services and rebuilding business relationships.

The corruption scandal necessitates a thorough investigation and accountability for those involved. Strengthening internal controls, enhancing oversight, and addressing systemic issues within the Postal Department are critical steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
