Pakistan responded on Thursday to statements made during a US congressional hearing, expressing concerns over misunderstandings regarding its domestic situation and electoral laws, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

During the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed hope for meaningful discussions with the US to address these misunderstandings. Pakistan emphasized the value of its close relations with the US and its commitment to constructive engagement.

Spokesperson Baloch stressed that while Pakistan respects the prerogative of legislative bodies to discuss international issues, such deliberations should contribute to promoting positive dynamics in bilateral ties based on mutual respect and understanding.

The response comes after US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu testified before a Congressional panel, rejecting former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s allegation of US involvement in his ouster from power as “completely false.” Lu dismissed Imran Khan’s claims as conspiracy theories and falsehoods.

Furthermore, Lu urged Pakistan to investigate reported irregularities in last month’s general election and to rerun the vote in affected constituencies if credible evidence of interference is found. He expressed serious concerns about the pre-election environment, including violence and terrorism.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s response underscores its commitment to addressing misunderstandings and fostering constructive engagement with the US. The hope is for discussions to contribute positively to bilateral relations and promote mutual respect and understanding.
