Pakistani and US Generals Discuss Regional Security

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir engaged in discussions on regional security cooperation with US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla. The meeting took place at CENTCOM Headquarters in Tampa Bay, Florida, as part of the army chief’s visit to the United States.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions between the two military leaders covered shared interests, with a specific focus on enhancing cooperation in regional security matters. The ISPR emphasized that both sides explored avenues for joint training and underscored the importance of boosting training interactions between Centcom and the Pakistan Army.

General Munir’s visit to the US included meetings with key officials, such as Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and other high-ranking defense authorities in Washington. During a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on December 17, the COAS reiterated the significance of a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

The ISPR quoted General Munir, stating, “Peace in South Asia will remain elusive until a peaceful solution to the longstanding Kashmir dispute is found in accordance with the [UN Security Council] UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
