The Chinese Embassy to mark China’s 75th anniversary, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the transformative potential of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s (CPEC) second phase for Pakistan’s economy.
The event, a confluence of diplomacy and celebration, underscored the robust partnership between Pakistan and its ally China.PM Sharif detailed the scope of CPEC’s expansion into its second phase, emphasizing vast opportunities for bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors including agriculture, information technology, and mining. “We are embarking on a significant journey into the second phase of CPEC, which promises to catalyze development across critical economic sectors and reinforce the foundations of our mutual interests with China,” he stated.
The gathering, which saw the attendance of President Asif Ali Zardari among various dignitaries, including federal ministers, diplomats, and senior civil and military officials, was not just a ceremonial commemoration but a reaffirmation of the deep-seated ties between the two nations. Sharif extended his congratulations to the Chinese government and its people, lauding China’s ascension as a global power and reaffirming its status as a crucial player in international affairs.
Both Pakistani and Chinese leaders at the event voiced a unified commitment to navigating the path towards a mutually prosperous future. “The enduring friendship between Pakistan and China is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” remarked PM Sharif, illustrating the profound and resilient bond between the two countries.
PM Sharif acknowledged China’s pivotal role during Pakistan’s recent negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), highlighting it as a testament to the strategic partnership’s strength. He stressed the importance of diversifying development in sectors such as agriculture and industry to foster national prosperity.
The ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and China was praised for not only bolstering regional development and peace but also contributing to global stability. PM Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s support for China’s stance on international matters, including issues related to Hong Kong and Taiwan. He expressed gratitude towards President Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership for their hospitality during his recent visit to China, describing the bilateral relationship as “indestructible and inseparable.”
The prime minister also conveyed his eagerness to welcome the Chinese Prime Minister to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government (SCO CHG) meeting, scheduled to take place in Islamabad. This meeting is expected to further enhance the dialogue on key international and regional issues.
On the same occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, commended President Xi Jinping’s leadership, which he credited with ushering China into a new era of prosperity from previous economic challenges. Ambassador Jiang’s comments highlighted the transformative leadership that has enabled China to emerge as a beacon of development and stability in the region.
