Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has instructed relevant authorities to prioritize the utilization of resources for power generation through renewable energy sources. Addressing a high-level meeting on Monday to assess progress in power sector projects, the PM reiterated his commitment to promoting renewable energy.

Shahbaz Sharif underscored the importance of transitioning towards renewable energy, criticizing crude oil tanker companies as “mafia” and “parasites” that drain the nation’s wealth. He emphasized the potential benefits of diverting from oil imports for power generation to renewable sources.

Applauding the Punjab government’s efforts to combat power theft, the PM expressed optimism that other provinces would emulate similar initiatives. He acknowledged the challenges posed by an inadequate electricity transmission system, highlighting the need for substantial improvements to maximize investments in the power sector.

Furthermore, PM Shahbaz directed authorities to engage top-tier consultants to address prevailing issues in the power sector effectively. He also urged the development of mechanisms for the efficient utilization of surplus electricity.

The Prime Minister welcomed the recent rainfall as a positive sign, anticipating a boost in hydropower generation as a result.
