The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a crucial warning on Friday regarding phishing and fraudulent links circulating on Whatsapp, social media, and through text messages. These deceptive messages falsely claim association with the PTA’s Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS), putting users at risk of compromising their personal information.

The fraudulent messages either falsely accuse the user’s SIM of engaging in “suspicious activities,” prompting them to check the number of SIMs at a given link, or warn of phone registration suspension unless the user visits a provided link.

In response to these scams, the PTA urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from clicking on links from unknown numbers or senders. They emphasized the importance of reporting such phone numbers and links through the PTA’s complaint management system on its toll-free number.

The public is further reminded to stay vigilant and prioritize the use of official platforms to safeguard personal information. The PTA highlighted that complaints about such activities can be lodged on their website, and to check the device’s status, users should visit the official website or forward an SMS to 8484 from their mobile devices.
