The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has delegated the responsibility of negotiating with stakeholders to Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai, utilizing the platform of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ayeen (TTAP) alliance.

The decision to engage Achakzai for negotiations comes after suggestions from PTI leadership to utilize the opposition alliance’s platform for dialogue with stakeholders. It has also been decided to grant Achakzai full authority to lead the negotiations, with further steps to be taken once PTI finalizes its decision.

The negotiations are expected to focus on several key issues, including the release of incarcerated leaders and workers, electoral transparency, and the constitutional boundaries of judiciary, parliament, and other state institutions. PTI’s political leadership will also be actively involved in the negotiation process, as per sources.

This development follows PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar’s statement confirming that the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, has approved talks with the government. Gohar stated that PTI would initiate negotiations after consulting with Achakzai. Imran Khan’s willingness for dialogue reflects a shift from his previous stance, signaling a desire for reconciliation.

Addressing journalists outside Adiala jail, Gohar emphasized the importance of dialogue in bridging the growing distance between political factions. He highlighted Imran Khan’s readiness to forgive past grievances for the sake of reconciliation, indicating a willingness to move forward.

Regarding the option suggested by the Supreme Court for negotiations, Barrister Gohar stated that while it is under consideration, the decision to negotiate remains PTI’s prerogative. He clarified that Imran Khan did not personally initiate dialogue through a letter to the Supreme Court, and any negotiation would be a response to the court’s suggestion.

This announcement comes in the wake of Imran Khan’s decision to “step back” from his previous stance, directing PTI leaders to establish contacts within and outside Parliament to alleviate political tensions. PTI leadership has been tasked with engaging with various political parties outside Parliament, while lawmakers are encouraged to strengthen relations with parties in the ruling coalition government.

As negotiations proceed under the leadership of Achakzai and with the active participation of PTI’s political leadership, stakeholders anticipate progress towards resolving key issues and fostering political stability in Pakistan.
