Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Sher Afzal Marwat, has taken the issue of alleged election rigging in the February 8 general elections to the Supreme Court. He has filed a petition urging the Court to suspend the process of government formation until a final decision is made on his plea.

In his petition submitted on Friday, Sher Afzal, the newly elected MNA from NA-41, invoked Article 184(3) of the Constitution. He named several respondents, including the federal government, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, among others.

The petitioner seeks to invalidate the appointment notifications of CEC Sikandar Sultan and four ECP members, alleging violations of the law and the constitution. He also challenges the formation of a committee by the ECP to investigate rigging allegations raised by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Jatoi.

Additionally, Sher Afzal calls for the annulment of Form 47 across National and Provincial constituencies, which he claims were prepared unlawfully. He urges the Court to establish guidelines to prevent corruption and ensure transparent elections in the future.

Furthermore, he requests the Court to halt the government formation process until a final decision is reached on his petition or restrain the Election Commissions from issuing any new orders during the inquiry.

The petition follows a previous case filed by Ali Khan, which was disposed of by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. The bench, including Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali, imposed a fine of Rs0.5 million on Ali Khan for non-appearance.
