In a significant crackdown on terrorism, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab successfully arrested three terrorists, including a prominent Daesh commander, during a series of operations across major cities in the province. According to a CTD spokesperson, these operations were carried out in Faisalabad, Jehlum, and Chakwal, leading to the apprehension of terrorists identified as Abdul Wahab, Saifullah, and Khurram Abbas. During these operations, the CTD recovered explosives, an improvised explosive device (IED) bomb, a detonator, cash, and other incriminating items.

CTD officials stated that the arrested terrorists were planning significant attacks in the region. The capture of these individuals is seen as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Punjab. The CTD’s swift actions have undoubtedly thwarted potential terrorist activities and ensured the safety of the public.

This recent success follows the arrest of Amin-ul-Haq, a close associate of Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. Addressing a news conference in Lahore, DIG CTD Usman Akram Gondal revealed that Amin-ul-Haq, a key Al-Qaeda operative, was taken into custody. Amin-ul-Haq’s name was on the list of terrorists wanted by the United States and the European Union, marking his capture as a significant victory for the CTD. The department has launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter, underscoring the importance of this arrest in disrupting terrorist networks.

The CTD’s efforts extend beyond Punjab. In the first six months of 2024, the CTD in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported killing 124 terrorists and arresting 322 in a series of operations. A total of 1,433 operations were conducted, successfully thwarting 55 terrorist attacks. These operations included the prevention of a major attack in Peshawar by arresting two suicide bombers, highlighting the CTD’s relentless efforts to maintain security in the region.

In July alone, the CTD Punjab arrested 38 terrorists in 449 intelligence-based operations across various cities, including Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, Narowal, Rawalpindi, and Multan. These operations demonstrate the department’s commitment to rooting out terrorism through strategic and well-coordinated efforts.

The CTD’s operations reflect a broader strategy of maintaining constant vigilance and taking proactive measures to combat terrorism. The department’s ability to conduct intelligence-based operations and swiftly act on gathered information has proven crucial in dismantling terrorist cells and preventing potential attacks.

The CTD’s achievements are also a result of international collaboration and support. The arrest of high-profile terrorists like Amin-ul-Haq underscores the importance of global cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Moving forward, the CTD plans to continue its robust operations and enhance its capabilities through training and collaboration with international partners.
