Regional Tax Office Destroys Illicit Cigarettes Worth Rs. 194 Million: Crackdown on Smuggling

Regional Tax Office in Rawalpindi recently conducted a significant crackdown on illicit cigarette trade, resulting in the destruction of contraband valued at approximately Rs. 194 million, with an estimated due tax of Rs. 141 million. The destruction ceremony took place on 25.04.2024 at Chakbeli Road, Rawalpindi.

During the event, Ms. Tehmina Aamer, Chief Commissioner of RTO Rawalpindi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was attended by members of the World Health Organization (WHO) and representatives from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The ceremony involved the destruction of about 2585 packrites of illicit cigarettes, including non-duty paid and smuggled ones. Participants were briefed on the confiscation process under the law and the subsequent destruction of illicit tobacco products.

In a symbolic gesture, all distinguished guests collectively torched and destroyed the illicit cigarettes, underscoring the commitment to combat smuggling and uphold tax enforcement laws.

This initiative highlights the Regional Tax Office’s dedication to curbing illicit trade and ensuring compliance with tax regulations, contributing to efforts to safeguard public health and combat illegal activities in the region.
