The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has accepted the unconditional apologies from Senator Faisal Vawda and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Mustafa Kamal in a contempt of court case stemming from anti-judiciary rhetoric.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued contempt of court notices to Senator Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal for their critical remarks against the judiciary. Vawda had initially refused to apologize but later submitted an apology, stating that he leaves his fate to the mercy of the Supreme Court.

Senator Faisal Vawda’s apology came on June 26, where he expressed regret for any disrespect caused to the judiciary during his press conferences. In his defense, Vawda clarified that his intention was not to insult the judiciary but to contribute positively to the country’s betterment.

The Supreme Court took suo moto notice of press conferences held by both leaders, where allegations of interference in judicial affairs were made without substantiated evidence. The court then summoned responses and subsequently issued contempt notices.

Similarly, Mustafa Kamal of MQM-Pakistan also tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for his remarks against the judiciary during the same case proceedings. His apology was aimed at rectifying any disrespect caused by his earlier statements.

During a press conference, Senator Faisal Vawda criticized judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), challenging them to provide evidence of alleged interference in judicial affairs by security agencies. He emphasized the need for concrete evidence rather than accusations.

Vawda urged the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to intervene in the matter, asserting that baseless accusations against state institutions should cease to safeguard the country from external and internal threats.
