SECP Chairman Announces New Investor Safeguards at InvestExpo 2023

Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman, Akif Saeed, revealed new regulatory safeguards aimed at ensuring investor protection during his address at InvestExpo 2023. Organized by the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX), the expo showcased leading entities in the financial sector, including stock brokers, commodities brokers, mutual funds, insurance, and microfinance companies. Akif Saeed emphasized the SECP’s commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent marketplace through these regulatory safeguards to instill confidence in investors.

The inaugural speech highlighted the significance of investor protection, with Akif underscoring the role of a deep and vibrant capital market in wealth creation and preservation. He noted that a robust capital market allows investors to diversify portfolios, manage risks effectively, and participate in the long-term growth of companies, benefiting the entire economy.

Akif Saeed also shed light on the SECP’s investor education program, “Jamapunji,” designed to enhance financial literacy and empower individuals with knowledge for making informed financial decisions. InvestExpo 2023 served as a platform to bridge the information gap, making financial products and services more accessible. The expo aimed to contribute to an inclusive financial landscape by fostering financial literacy across Pakistan.

The event featured insightful awareness sessions by market experts, focusing on investing in stocks, commodities, and mutual funds. Speakers addressed intricacies of insurance, Takaful, and microfinance, attracting a diverse audience and highlighting the growing significance of financial literacy in the country.

Strategic partners, including the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Central Depository Company (CDC), National Clearing Company (NCCPL), Pakistan Stock Brokers Association (PSBA), Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan (MUFAP), Insurance Association of Pakistan (IAP), Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN), and the Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan (IFMP), played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of InvestExpo 2023.
