“Seven Customs Officials Killed in Dual Gunmen Attacks in Western Pakistan”

ARAB NEWS

In a tragic incident, unknown gunmen have claimed the lives of two customs officers in western Pakistan, officials confirmed on Sunday. This follows a series of attacks in the region, with five customs officials falling victim to violence in recent days.

No group has yet taken responsibility for the attacks, which have been under investigation by local police since Thursday. Security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have worsened over the years, contributing to a volatile situation in the region.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in attacks, predominantly targeting law enforcement personnel, including police and security officials. The latest attack occurred while customs officials were conducting routine checks, leading to injuries and the closure of the area on a busy highway, as stated by Muhammad Adnan, the district deputy superintendent of police.

Just three days prior, a similar attack claimed the lives of five customs department officials in the same area, with the perpetrators managing to escape. These incidents have heightened tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has accused militants of utilizing Afghan territory to orchestrate attacks and has urged the Taliban to take action. In response, Pakistan conducted an airstrike on Afghan soil last month. However, the Taliban refute allegations of harboring militants and assert that Pakistan’s security concerns are internal matters.

Last month, Pakistan launched intelligence-based anti-terrorist operations within Afghanistan in retaliation to multiple terrorist assaults within its borders, resulting in significant civilian and law enforcement casualties.
