Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has mandated that individuals identified as having the ability to pay taxes but failing to file returns must be swiftly brought into the tax net. During a review meeting focused on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms, it was revealed that 4.5 million such individuals have been identified. The prime minister emphasized the urgency of incorporating these potential taxpayers into the system.

The prime minister has requested a detailed action plan outlining specific goals for the digitization and reform of the FBR. This plan is expected to be presented at the next meeting. The prime minister was briefed on the ongoing implementation of his directives, noting significant progress in reviewing the existing system and manpower of the FBR. As a result, initial steps have led to the identification and halting of approximately 4,000 companies involved in fraudulent and under-invoiced sales tax refunds.
