Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif affirmed on Tuesday that both Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insafe (PTI)-sponsored and non-PTI-sponsored candidates are welcome to pursue government formation efforts, while PML-N stands ready to fulfill its role in opposition and uphold constitutional principles.

Speaking at a press conference, the former Prime Minister noted that despite concerns regarding weather and security, general elections proceeded. Shahbaz criticized baseless allegations directed at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), highlighting past demonstrations and sit-ins outside Parliament.

Addressing the outcome of the elections, Shahbaz emphasized the need for comprehensive result analysis, cautioning against premature conclusions based on limited data. He asserted PML-N’s position as the largest political party, alongside acknowledging the significant presence of independent candidates.

Regarding the independent candidates’ potential role in government formation, Shahbaz emphasized their autonomy, stating that they are free to collaborate and establish a government. He clarified that PML-N would not extend formal invitations but would observe developments from the opposition bench.

In the aftermath of the general elections, independent candidates secured 101 seats, PML-N obtained 75 seats, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured 54 seats in the National Assembly.
